I Can Save a life will come to your workplace, sports clubs, child care centre, school, and home offering a quality service of teaching vital first aid skills. 

The Asthma and Anaphylaxis Management (Asthma 10760NAT and Anaphylaxis 10710NAT)) combined course delivers the essential principles, skills and knowledge in the first aid management of asthma and anaphylaxis including the use of the adrenaline auto-injector (e.g. Epi-pen). This course is approved by the Australian Children’s Education & Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) to meet the asthma management training requirements of child care workers.

 

 

COURSE CONTENT

  • Signs and symptoms of asthma and anaphylaxis

  • Triggers that can cause an asthma attack

  • Medication and delivery devices for the management of asthma

  • Identifying potential asthma emergencies

  • Treating a mild, moderate and severe asthma episode

  • First aid assistance in an undiagnosed individual

  • First aid treatment for anaphylaxis

  • Identifying individuals at risk of allergic reactions and anaphylaxis

  • Developing individual anaphylaxis management plans

  • Avoidance and preventative measures to take for children with severe allergies

  • Managing severe allergic reactions, including the use of the adrenaline auto-injector (e.g. Epi-pen)

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Participants must be a minimum of 14 years of age on the date of final assessment

  • It is highly recommended that all participants hold a current CPR certificate, 

  • Minimum of 4 people

 

DURATION

4-5 hours including assessment. 

 

ASSESMENT 

The course is assessed through demonstration, presentation and application of all elements of competency in the workplace. Participants will be required to complete activities that may include role-plays, oral and written questioning, practical demonstrations, perform scenarios and pre-course online learning.

 

ACCREDITATION

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for the following units of competence:

  • 10760NAT - Course in Emergency Asthma Management

  • 10710VIC - Course in First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis

 

VALIDITY

To maintain the currency and validity of your skills, industry requires an Asthma Management and an Anaphylaxis Management course be completed every 3 years from the date of final assessment.
